Ideas for that Special Someone

Oh dear, a birthday, anniversary, or holiday has come and once again, you are clueless as to what to get for that special someone.  You have done the cutesy dates with her favorite candy and her favorite movie a hundred times, and you want to spice it up a bit.  While those things are always very nice to include in a relationship, changing things up a little bit sometimes adds surprise and excitement to relationships.  Maybe you decide you are going to take her to do something on her bucket list to surprise her, or perhaps you take her on a surprise road trip to show off your spontaneity.  However, you don’t have to go anywhere to sweep her off of her feet.  One way to really do this is to handpick her a piece of jewelry that she will treasure forever.  This doesn’t mean finding the first thing that you see in a jewelry store, wrapping it up, and saying, “you are special.”  That isn’t special, and a girl can definitely tell when you have or haven’t put thought into the jewelry that you got her.  They look for the meaning behind the gift over the actual gift.  If you really want to wow her with jewelry, your best option is to get her a piece of jewelry with an Ashoka Cut Diamond.  The Ashoka Cut Diamond is definitely top of the line, and she will know that you put thought into that gift.  Pick out something that fits with her personality and top it off with one of those diamonds and she will be gleaming brighter than the sun.

What Makes an Ashoka Diamond?

What is so different about an Ashoka Diamond from a regular diamond?  True, diamonds are stunning and rare.  True, diamonds are cut in different ways to show off the sparkling beauty throughout the entire stone.  True, diamonds are a girl’s best friend.  But, when it comes to the Ashoka Diamond, there has to be some reason behind the wonder that it brings out.

While all diamonds are beautiful and rare, many people do not exactly notice all the faults that a diamond truly has.  Diamonds are judged just like gymnasts and divers are judged.  Each little tiny fault, while unnoticed by the audience, deducts value from the performance or appearance.  So with diamonds, each tiny blemish and fault deducts value from the diamond. These diamonds, however, are top of the line diamonds that you can be sure are top quality. You most definitely will not see one of these diamonds with air bubbles and cracks galore.  These diamonds are smooth, air-free, and blemish-free, which puts these diamonds at top value on the market. This line of diamonds by William Goldberg is specialized to be the greatest gift you could get a loved one. (They could even be used as a gift to yourself).  If you want diamonds that have definitely not been taken care of, you will have to look elsewhere, because these diamonds have been taken care of with the utmost respect.  You will not find diamonds with a rarer beauty than these from William Goldberg. Why settle for something that doesn’t make you happy when you know exactly where to find the most beautiful diamond?

The Legacy of William Goldberg

The name William Goldberg is synonymous with exquisite diamond jewelry.  Goldberg, only recently died in Oct. 20, 2003, at the age of 77. He started out as a diamond cutter in 1948. He soon found a passion in diamond sales after collaborating with Irving Weiss to found Goldberg & Weiss in 1952. By 1973, Goldberg left to found his own company, the William Goldberg Diamond Corporation. He was elected president of the New York Diamond Dealers Club in 1978 because he was held in such high esteem in the diamond community. Goldberg presided through 1984. Some of his more notable achievements include such as opening the club to the media and allowing women to become members. He was inducted into Gemological Institute of America’s League of Honor in 1995.

He famously traded in rare, well known diamonds. Some of the more notable diamonds included the Queen of Holland diamond, the Premier Rose diamond, the Red Shield diamond and the Pumpkin diamond. The Premier Rose was sold in 1989 for $10 million dollars.

It was likely the most ever paid for a diamond at the time. It came from a 353.9-carat rough diamond he picked off a conveyor belt from a South African diamond mine. It was cut into three flawless diamonds, including the 137-carat pear-shaped Premier Rose.

To honor Goldberg, his estate has contributed a significant charitable gift to the Gemological Institute of America,  establishing  the William Goldberg Endowed Scholarship Fund. This gift will allow for the training of future generations of diamond and jewelry professionals. This gift brings the William Goldberg Diamond Corp.'s cumulative giving to the Institute to more than $350,000.

The Ashoka Diamond

The Ashoka Diamond comes in a variety of carats...but what exactly is a carat? Just like a dollar is divided into 100 pennies, a carat is comprised of 100 points. For example, a 25-point diamond weighs 0.25 carats. But two diamonds of equal weight can have exceedingly different monetary values depending on other factors, including cut, clarity, and color. You will find that most diamonds you encounter in fine jewelry weigh less than one carat.

Many people mistakenly think that a greater carat means a better, more attractive gem.  This is not always the case. It needs to also be symmetrical, well cut, and have few flaws to be truly outstanding. If you are concerned about size, you may be interested in choosing a gem with a fancy shape. These often appear larger than standard large gems.

However, even a fraction of a carat can make a large difference in the cost or value of the diamond. Precision in crafting the diamond is crucial. In the diamond industry, weight is usually measured to the hundred thousandths of a carat, and then rounded to a hundredth of a carat.  Diamond weights more than one carat are displayed in carats and decimals. Don’t confuse carat with karat, as in “16K gold,” which refers to the purity of gold.

The carat, the international standard unit in weighing diamonds and gemstones, actually gets its name from the carob seed. In ancient Rome, these small seeds had a fairly uniform weight, so the first gem traders used them as counterweights in their balance scales. The modern metric carat, equal to 0.2 grams, was adopted by the United States in 1913 and every other country followed suit.  This is about the same weight as a standard paperclip. The Ashoka diamond comes in different carats, and housed in stunning jewelry that appeals to sophisticated diamond enthusiasts.

Certified Ashoka Diamond Jewelry

Each diamond in our Ashoka diamond jewelry collection is laser inscribed with a certificate number. What are these certificate numbers? All reputable diamonds are certified to by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or AGS (American Gem Society).  A certificate is a "blueprint" of a diamond, it tells you the diamond's exact measurements and weight, and characterizes its cut and quality. It points out all the exact characteristics of the stone. Each diamond has its own identity and value as described in a unique certificate.

A certificate is not the same thing as a diamond appraisal. A certificate will describe the quality of a diamond, but it does not place a specific cash value on the gem. An appraisal places a monetary value on your diamond, and it does not certify the quality of the diamond.

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the American Gem Society (AGS) are the two most widely regarded and recognized diamond grading labs in the world. There are also smaller labs --check with your retailer to make sure your diamond is certified.   Different labs have different grading standards. Some have much more lax standards than others. You may want to do some research on the lab before buying your diamond to ensure the quality of it.

Shopping for certified diamonds allows you to make a better choices about your diamond purchases and to comparison shop. You can evaluate one diamond with a particular weight and quality with other diamonds of similar weight and quality and determine which is the better value. By comparison shopping this way, many consumers find that Ashoka diamond jewelry is superior in quality and value to its competitors.
